Moldovan authorities have taken necessary measures to ensure the continuity and reliability of electricity supply for consumers in Varnița, Anenii Noi district and Copanca, Căușeni district.
As a consequence of the unilateral cessation by the Russian concern Gazprom on January 1, 2025, of natural gas deliveries to the Transnistrian region, certain localities under the jurisdiction of constitutional authorities, connected to the electricity distribution networks of the left bank of the Dniester River, were exposed to imminent related risks, which conditioned the state authorities to take prompt actions to enhance energy resilience and provide necessary support to Moldovan citizens affected by the crisis.
“In this regard, during the state of emergency (December 16, 2024 – February 13, 2025), declared by the Parliament’s decision, the Commission for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Moldova (CSE) adopted a series of stringent measures to efficiently manage the energy crisis and mitigate its negative impact on citizens and institutions in localities within the Security Zone,” Reintegration Policy Office said (BPR).
Thus, following the adoption of CSE Order No.3 of 6 January 2025, necessary actions were undertaken by Premier Energy Distribution SA for connecting the electricity distribution networks in the villages of Varnița, Anenii Noi district and Copanca, Căușeni district to their own electricity distribution networks.
“A medium voltage (10 kV) power line about 8 km long was constructed towards Varnița, with the installation of a 10/6 kV transformer link, and a section of a medium voltage (10 kV) power line about 1 km long was built towards Copanca. The electric grids have been tested and can be operated, in reserve mode, in case of emergency situations,” the source notes.
The measures undertaken by the state authorities have enabled the enhancement of energy resilience and a significant reduction in the risks related to energy security, with a direct impact on the citizens and institutions in the villages of Varnița and Copanca, guaranteeing the continuity and reliability of the electricity supply for the consumers in the localities in case of emergency situations.
